Learn about art, Captain. When you understand a species' art, you understand that species.

About This Quote

The great Captain Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation once said, “Learn about art, Captain. When you understand a species' art, you understand that species.” In this quote, the meaning is that when you understand a species’ art, you understand that species. This quote is a relatively recent addition to the Star Trek lexicon and probably came from the episode titled “The Next Generation.” The episode was a story about a team of scientists who realized they were being manipulated by the Borg from the future. They worked together to survive long enough to come home and warn their people of what would happen to them in the future. In order to do so, they had to learn how they were being manipulated and how to break their control over them.
